This is my first blog and I wanted to start off by writing a very simple recipe which is close to my heart: Alu Posto! Posto in any form is always a cause for cheer at our home, so here comes the recipe of Alu Posto from my kitchen to yours:
Alu ( potatoes ) - 3 ( Russet type, cut into bite sized pieces )
Posto ( poppy seeds ) - 4 tbsp
Kancha lonka ( green chili ) - 6 ( adjust to your taste )
Kalonji ( nigella seeds ) - 1/2 tsp
Oil - 3 tsp
Salt - as per taste
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Mustard oil - optional
Method:
Heat oil and temper it with kalonji and green chili. Once you get the smell of green chili, add the potatoes and fry it. Throw in the salt and the turmeric powder. Lower the heat to a medium, cover it and let it cook for a few minutes. Meanwhile, grind the poppy seed into a paste with some water and 3 green chili in a blender. When the potatoes are 3/4 done, add the poppy seed paste along with a little water. Fry it for a few minutes and then let it cook on medium heat till the potatoes are done and the smell of the raw poppy seed disappears. Pour a little mustard oil on top.
